Registration Guidelines

The aim of the NIPGC is to have a record of parentage for every goat registered within the club therefore allowing members to easily distinguish relatives before breeding and to confirm that the pygmy goat you buy is from inspected and registered stock adhering to the breed standard.

This means through selection and education we aim to weed out goats being sold as Pygmys that do not adhere to the breed standard.

Our registration process is pretty simple if you are not already a member you need to download a form from *here* or register online *here* and fill in all details required, if you plan to breed pygmy goats you must also apply for a herd name which is part of our membership form, if your sole purpose is to have a few pygmys as pets a herd name is included in your membership but is optional.

Membership is £30, this must be renewed annually at our AGM each Autumn, a few weeks before our AGM all current members will receive a letter notifying them of the AGM date and that their membership is due for renewal.

Once you fill in your membership form its time to fill in the goat registration forms, these can be downloaded on our website, you must fill all details on this form entirely and correctly failure to do so or by falsifying details on this form will have your membership revoked and all animals with your Herd Name prefix removed from our Register.

Prices for Registration are £12 per female , £5 per pet/wether , £40 per entire buck. These are one off payments once registered that is them for life.

Depending on our records and your goats official NIPGC Inspection will determine where in our Register your goat will be recorded;

Pet Register is for goats which comply with our breed standard but perhaps have a Jaw Fault or Male with a Teat Fault that are wethered, this section is also for wethered males with no faults that are kept as pets. Any animals recorded in the Pet Record should not be bred from and are solely to be kept as pets, this is to protect and improve the quality of the breed in Northern Ireland by removing faults from the lineage.

Identity Register is for goats which adhere to the breed standard and pass official NIPGC Inspection, no Jaw faults will be allowed in the IR, females with minor teat faults are permissible however males with teat faults must be wethered and not be bred from.

Foundation Register is for goats whose parents are already registered in the Identity Register or with one parent IR and one foundation, these goats are also inspected by the NIPGC and must pass all breed standard checks and have zero faults, any goats with faults must be entered in the Pet Record or in the case of minor teat faults in females the Identity Register; regardless of their parentage.

The Herd Book is for goats whose parents and grandparents are registered in the Foundation and Identity Registers, they will also have to pass the NIPGC inspection. No goats will be entered in this section unless they are totally free from all faults.

Herd Book Pedigree; If parents are both herd book registered with full pedigree behind them their kids will not have to pass inspection but it is up to the owners to declare faults and enter into the appropriate section when registering. It is an offence to falsify your registration.

If you are unsure and would like an opinion of one of our official Inspectors feel free to make note on your forms or contact the registration secretary direct and we will arrange for someone to visit.

Below I have included a table to show where your goats will be registered when bred from different sections of the register.

If you are still unsure about the registration process or where your goat will be registered, please get in contact with us.

We have selected this tiered method of registration based on the Pygmy Goat Club of Great Britain’s original registration Process, we believe this is the best way to help move forward with the standard of the breed in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

PCGGB stock can be registered with us for a cost of £3 (with a letter of confirmation) or £5 (with certificates including postage), we will require a copy of their pedigree and a picture of each side of the goat a picture of its teeth and teats. (if these arent provied an inspection will be required by one of our inspectors.

PGCGB stock will be registered in our Herd Book section with details of parents and grandparents also registered.

When selling kids a fully filled in registration form must accompany them with their parents details etc filled in and the transfer section of the form filled in, these must both be filled in and sent to the club for registration.

When selling females in kid a service certificate and transfer of ownership form must accompany them this is to ensure correct registration of any kids she may have.

We recommend all goat owners are registered with DAERA as it is the law, however if you are not set up with DAERA but still want to register your herd please do get in touch.

We can accept membership registrations from down south, if you wish to register your goats however a fee to cover travel costs for our inspectors will be required on top of your registration fees. We also accept paperwork from PGSI /PGCI if goats have already been inspected.
