Judges Report

First Class to judge was combined with Junior Male and Yearling Male. Two males in the lineup, Leitrim Percy and Leitrim Rosco. I awarded first place to Leitrim Rosco , a short bodied male, nice deep chest square set from the front. Fore ribs well sprung, well developed barrel although he did tighten towards his rear. Tracked well.
Second place to Leitrim Percy a junior male slightly less developed due to age, none the less this junior shows good potential, again a short bodied male, nice shape to head blending well to shoulders. Nice chest width, good barrel, topline blending to rump nicely, a very well proportioned male and most pleasing was the rear of this junior. Angulation was great, hips widely set apart. A super trait to pass on from a future herd sire.

Next class was Adult Male, Bongo owned and presented by James Ross. A beautiful well presented male. Great strong masculine head set on a well muscled neck that blended to shoulders and loin beautifully, chest was deep and wide set on strong square legs. Topline was very pleasing, fore ribs deep and well sprung, barrel deep and well muscled, rear angulation was very good again showing good width from behind which allowed for ease of tracking. Top marks, great male.

Up next was the Young Handlers Class with first place going to Katie Ross and second to Megan Ross, both girls doing fantastic with Katie's goat walking best on the day.

Pet Class was next and just one goat on show. An educational class for Mr. Conn, I believe a first time exhibitor. Top marks for ring Etiquette and hopefully an enticement to show in future. Well done.

Junior Female Class 7-12 months was up next. With 7 in the lineup, all propitious looking on first glance. First place I awarded to Claggan Road Hazel. At 7 months old this junior female could stand her own in a yearling class. Head ideally shaped with a well developed jowl, blended beautifully from neck to loin, chest showing great width on what was very strong bone. Fore ribs well sprung and deep, while top line dipped ever so slightly it didn't do much to alter my decision. Barrel was well developed and strong, rear angles perfectly set and wide. Tracked with ease. Second place to Beech Hay Bebe. A strong junior female, ideal head shape and jowl, neck to loin blended well, chest width good, square set front legs. Top line to rump blended well and well set from the rear. Great potential and look forward to seeing this junior female mature. Third place went to Leitrim Ginny, a beautifully proportioned female although finer than most in her class showed great potential, head and jowl promising, blended well from neck to loin, set on a proportionately square body, chest wide, barrel well developed, top line, rump and rear angles all pleasing showing adequate width, tracked very well.

Yearling Female Class 1-2 Years
7 yearlings on show with first place going to Claggan Road Joy. This female had the lot, very well set head, great jowl and bite, nice short well blended neck into well set shoulders. Chest width was excellent, legs showing thick strong bone, fore ribs deep and strongly sprung, barrel deep and muscled no sign of weakness, top line level and blended to rump very well. Rear angles very pleasing, tracked with little effort. Top marks, superb female. Second place to Leitrim Mistle, a very well proportioned female, nice deep jowl, lovely set head blending well to neck shoulders and loin, chest wide deep and set on strong square front legs, nice deep muscled barrel, top line to rump blended well and tracked well. Third place went to Little Gems Sassy, a similar female to the previous placed Leitrim Mistle and tough to judge, the only difference in jowl width deciding my placings.

Adult Female Class 2+ Years
First place Little Gems Dimples, a very well proportioned female, nicely shaped head and neck blended beautifully to shoulders and loin, Great width to chest, square set strong front legs, fore ribs deep strong and well sprung, barrel deep and well muscled, top line blended easily to rump, rear angles and width very pleasing, tracked extremely well. Second place went to TLF Joyce, again an extremely tough choice. I felt the only difference between first and second was how the neck blended to shoulders and loin. All other aspects were similar and took a tough decision to call it. Third place Little Gems Minnie, a very good female, nice head and bite, blended well from neck to shoulders although I found her to lack chest width of previous two placings. A strong boned female with pleasing top line and rump, a strong well developed barrel, rear angulation good and tracked well.

Dam and Progeny Class
Only one entry TLF Joyce & Claggan Road Joy. Great example were the offspring showed a greatly improved bone structure and width all round. Took all qualities from dam and an obvious improvement on structure.

Champion Male Class
Two males, Bongo and Leitrim Rosco. First place and Champion Male went to Bongo. Overall this boy was obviously the older and more developed, taking nothing away he was the best of the pair. He showed more width to the rear and deserved the red rosette. Reserve went to Leitrim Rosco a strong well bred buckling.

Champion Female Class
First place to Claggan Road Joy. A cracking female, very deserving of the win, and second place awarded to Little Gems Dimples well deserved placing in what was a strong line up of females on the day.

Overall Champion
Bongo came away with overall Champion. For me it was the male breed who displayed all the most pleasing breed standard traits, strong head and horns, muscled neck, strength, width and presence. Great example of the breed presented in top condition. A credit to both animal and exhibitor. Claggan Road Joy equally as stunning. A female with fantastic ring presence and a great example of the breed.

A fantastic day matched by fantastic exhibitors and weather.
Thank you to the NIPGC for the opportunity to judge the wonderful animals on show and well done to all.
